Celebrating appointments and promotions in the School of Medicine Basic Sciences: January–March 2026

The Vanderbilt University School of Medicine Basic Sciences community is made up of scientists and researchers who demonstrate their steadfast commitment, innovative thinking, and passion for advancing knowledge about human biology, health, and disease each day.  

We extend congratulations to our faculty who were recently promoted or received new appointments. These individuals significantly enrich our pursuit of pathbreaking research and contribute to the growth and success of our school. 

New appointments: 

Research track:  

  • Ye Han was appointed as a research associate professor in the Department of Pharmacology. 
  • Rui Chen was appointed as a research assistant professor in the Department of Molecular Physiology and Biophysics. 
  • Jay Prakash Kumar and Soma Behera were appointed as research instructors in the Department of Molecular Physiology and Biophysics. 
  • Youn Jae Jung was appointed as a research instructor in the Department of Cell and Developmental Biology. 

Promotions: 

Research track: 

  • Zhen Wang and Yihu Xie were promoted to research associate professors in the Department of Biochemistry. 
  • Areetha D’Souza was promoted to research assistant professor in the Department of Biochemistry. 

Investigator track:  

  • Doug Kojetin was promoted to full professor in the Department of Biochemistry. 

Endowed chairs: 

The following faculty members were given endowed chairs: 

  • Doug Mitchell now holds the William Kelly Warren Sr. Chair in Biochemistry. 
  • Martin Egli now holds the Richard N. Armstrong, Ph.D. Chair for Innovation in Biochemistry. 
  • David Jacobson now holds the Stevenson Chair.
