The VBI reaches out

The faculty and students of the Vanderbilt Brain Institute are involved in several community service activities throughout the year. You can see videos of our faculty engaging in communicating neuroscience directly to the public at VBI Talks To You. Brain Blast is our annual signature event, every March during Brain Awareness Month. Our faculty, fellows and graduate students visit public and private schools in the Middle Tennessee area to talk about neuroscience, mentor students and give kids an opportunity to hold, examine and dissect a sheep brain with their own hands, and also teach at the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at Vanderbilt University. Plus, we reach out to the Middle Tennessee undergraduate community with our Neuroscience Extravaganza, coming back in 2022!

Our Outreach Committee is currently overseen by Prof. Rebecca Ihrie, and benefits from the contributions of Profs. Erin Calipari, Lisa Monteggia and Suzana Herculano-Houzel, and graduate students Kellie Williford, Kacie Dunham, Nikki Frazer and Jane Burton. If you’d like to participate in our outreach activities, request a visit to your school, or have any suggestions to make, please contact us at askabrainscientist@vanderbilt.edu.
