The infection cycle of SARS-CoV-2

Since December 2019, coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) has spread rapidly around the world, causing a pandemic that threatens global public health. The causative agent of COVID-19 is a novel β-coronavirus called Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2). SARS-CoV-2 is an enveloped, positive-sense, single stranded RNA virus that gains entry into the host cell through the binding of the viral spike (S) protein to the host ACE2 receptor.
