As the Las Vegas massacre is added to a growing list of mass shootings, gun control again resurfaces as an important priority for Americans. One common feature of such regulation is the inclusion of background checks as a condition for purchasing a gun, and the exclusion of those with mental illness from purchasing a firearm. What are the true risk factors involved in mass shootings, and are the perpetrators of gun violence really as mentally ill as we believe? Dr. Jonathan Metzl (Director of the Center for Medicine, Health, and Society and Professor of Psychiatry) shares his expertise. Co-sponsored with the Psychiatry Interest Group. Food will be provided to the first 10 attendees who have RSVP'ed.
