Tennessee Science Standards Development Team Opportunity

The State Board of Education formed a committee to evaluate the current science standards in Tennessee and propose a direction for future standards. This committee concluded the first phase of work and directed the department to propose a set of revised Tennessee standards for science education. If adopted, new Tennessee science standards would go into effect during the 2016-17 school year.

The department is seeking excellent educators and content experts to serve on science standards development teams (more details here). These teams will be charged with developing science standards for Tennessee. Up to 30 science standards development team members will be selected, representing all grades and subject levels. Teams will work together to develop proposed grade- and course-level standards and assessment design specifications.

Interested applicants must be able to attend in-person meetings June 2-6 and July 10, 2014.  Additional meetings and work will occur on an as-needed basis through December. The term of service will begin in June and conclude by December 2014 and will involve 25-30 hours of work during June and July (in addition to meetings) and 5-10 hours per month September through December 2014.

Interested science educators are invited to submit a letter of intent and résumé listing two references to Sarah.Shepson@tn.gov by May 1, 2014.

Interviews will be conducted in early May and applicants will be notified by May 23. Selected applicants will receive a competitive stipend and will be reimbursed for travel-related expenses.
