The Art and Science of Job Offer Negotiation for Women with Dr. Rebecca Bryant
Negotiation and the acceptance or rejection of an offer is the final step in the job search process. But only about 25 percent of job applicants attempt to negotiate even though negotiation is widely accepted and usually expected. Women are often more reluctant to negotiate than men, and this disinclination accounts, in part, for continuing wage discrepancies between the sexes. In this workshop, Dr. Rebecca Bryant will address the importance of job offer negotiation, the fears that prevent people–especially women–from negotiating, and provide specific advice on how to successfully negotiate.

Dr. Rebecca Bryant spent a decade in the University of Illinois Graduate College as Assistant Dean leading a diverse set of operations and initiatives, including the establishment of graduate career services and postdoctoral affairs, as well as oversight of academic policies and processes related to doctoral degree completion. During her tenure overseeing graduate career development, she authored, "Go Ahead, Haggle" for the Chronicle of Higher Education. She currently serves as Project Manager for Researcher Information Systems at the University of Illinois Library where she leads a campus-wide effort to implement the Illinois Research Connections researcher information system. Dr. Bryant earned a bachelor’s degree at Butler University, a master’s degree from the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music, and a PhD in musicology from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
