Carlos Faraco is a 2016-17 AAAS Science and Technology Policy Fellow, who secured a position in the National Institute of Justice (NIJ) Office of Investigative and Forensic Science (OIFS).
Carlos completed his Ph.D. in Neuroscience and M.S. in Psychology at the University of Georgia. While there, his research primarily focused on developing functional and structural magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) measures of working memory performance in both healthy adults and those with mild to moderate levels of cognitive impairment due to dementing processes. As a post-doc at Vanderbilt, Carlos worked on developing non-invasive MRI measures to assess i) stroke risk in patients with intracranial steno-occlusive disease and ii) predict negative drug responses in Parkinson disease patients.
At OIFS, he will use his expertise of the scientific method to explore, critique, and suggest improvements to OIFS's approaches to forensic science issues through strategic plan development.
