Job Title: Genomic Scientist

About Nashville Biosciences (NashBio):

NashBio’s business harnesses a unique genetic database linked to de-identified electronic medical records (EMRs) with years of longitudinal clinical data. The dataset is the largest and highest quality of its kind, providing an unprecedented opportunity to glean valuable clinical & genomic insights to accelerate the discovery & development of new drugs & diagnostics. The business consults for a wide range of biopharma and diagnostics companies, resulting in accelerated and more productive R&D. Additionally, additional new biotech spinout ventures will be formed from the proprietary R&D conducted using this dataset.

Position:

NashBio is seeking business-minded scientists to join a growing team of fast-paced and forward-thinking innovators. Interested candidates are motivated self-starters who would thrive in the rapidly changing and challenging environment of a startup. In this role, you will work closely with senior leadership to develop scientific insights to guide company deliverables and overall strategy. You will work hand in hand with our clinical and computational teams to analyze and interpret results generated from our proprietary datasets, such as the identification and study of a particular disease population or assessing the disease and drug mechanisms associated with new drug targets through a careful understanding of scientific literature. Central to this work will be an ability to think in a logical, structured fashion, work effectively in a highly collaborative environment and effectively communicate your findings to the rest of the team and ultimately to NashBio’s clients.

Responsibilities:

– Analyze and validate scientific findings from our complex phenomic & genomic data sets, for ongoing client engagements, business development activities and our own proprietary R&D

– Communicate scientific findings by synthesizing your results into clear, comprehensive materials to deliver to clients

– Manage multiple ongoing projects for each client to ensure projects are delivered on-time, within scope and within budget

– Manage relationship with the client and project stakeholders, including regular meetings, creation and maintenance of project documentation, and periodic follow-up

– Work collaboratively with relevant external experts and client contacts when more in-depth or specialized expertise is needed for client service work

– Support ongoing business development activity, including creation of proposal materials and assessing project feasibility

Qualifications:

– Life sciences PhD (particularly in human genetics or computational genomics), MD/PhD or MD

– Experience in human genetics, population genomics, next-generation sequencing, and/or genome- or phenome-wide association studies

– 1-2 years of project management experience

– Strong understanding of basic biology, especially as it relates to human processes, pharmacology, drug-protein interactions, and signaling pathways preferred

– Experienced at navigating literature searches, online scientific databases, scientific articles and interacting with other scientific experts

– Strong pattern recognition in complex datasets

– Good feel for clinical indications of diseases is a plus

– Understanding of physician coding and diagnosis habits is a plus

– Familiarity with statistics/biomedical informatics is a plus

– Basic knowledge of one or more relevant programming languages is a plus (e.g., Python, R, Perl, SQL, etc.)

– Authorized to work in the US

Location: The position will be based in Nashville, TN.

Compensation: Commensurate with experience & competitive with other positions in the field.
