The Office of Faculty Affairs (OFA) facilitates faculty career success and growth through professional development activities, mentorship and leadership training for faculty in the School of Medicine and Skaggs School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences. OFA analyzes faculty data to develop evidence-based effective programming and initiatives to enhance success, recruitment, and retention of an engaged diverse and inclusive faculty.

The San Diego Institutional Research and Academic Career Development Award (IRACDA) Program Manager is responsible for the operation of UC San Diego’s IRACDA program to provide training to Postdoctoral Fellows in biomedical and behavioral sciences. The program manager will develop and coordinate opportunities for IRACDA fellows to obtain training and experience with evidence based best practices in teaching and learning – in an increasingly integrated, diverse, and digitally-engaged learning environment. Collaborate with UC San Diego Engaged Teaching Hub to identify training opportunities to improve teaching and learning practices among IRACDA fellows. Serve as a resource to assess learning, implement and document impact of instructional innovation and IRACDA fellow teaching on student learning at partner institutions.

Coordinate with partner institution faculty to provide teaching opportunities for IRACDA fellows. Develop and coordinate course redesign strategies for IRACDA fellows to implement scientific teaching approaches in biology courses. Perform in class observations to evaluate IRACDA fellows’ teaching and coordinate teaching evaluations of IRACDA fellows by partner institution faculty teaching mentors and students. Facilitate the creation of individual development plans for IRACDA fellows and serve as a resource for implementing teaching and outreach opportunities to enhance IRACDA fellows’ career development.

Coordinate with partner institution academic and outreach programs to organize mentoring activities for IRACDA fellows with STEM students at partner institutions focusing on individuals from underrepresented groups. Serve as a liaison between IRACDA fellows, the UC San Diego Directors and faculty and staff at partner institutions. Work with the Directors to implement ethics and career development training for IRACDA fellows. Represent San Diego IRACDA at local, California, and national meetings. The Program Manager will also be involved in the IRACDA admissions and recruitment process and tracking the fellows that matriculate through the program. The Program Manager must keep an accurate database, write reports to assess and document the activities and effectiveness of San Diego IRACDA to entities internal and external to UC San Diego, including funding agencies.
