ROLE SUMMARY

The Senior Scientist will help lead process development of Pfizer’s Gene Therapy programs. We are seeking a highly motivated individual who demonstrates personal accountability for outcomes and thrives on increasing levels of responsibility. As a member of the Bioprocess R&D development department, the Senior Scientist will lead technical projects within the upstream PD group with the goal of developing robust, scalable, and highly productive processes that produce viral vectors with the appropriate product quality to treat human disease.

 

ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES

The successful Senior Scientist will have demonstrated ability as a technical lead for complex cell culture development programs. This position will join a larger team of scientists across multiple sites focused on developing and optimizing cell culture processes for recombinant viral vectors for early- and late-phase clinical trials. This position will support process definition, tech transfer, process validation, quality by design, regulatory approaches, and innovative research. The job function requires sound scientific judgment and innovation using advanced practices and procedures to achieve solutions. The individual must be capable of actively seeking out key stakeholders and have the ability to synthesize information from various sources and disciplines. The successful candidate will prepare internally reviewed technical reports and make oral presentations to scientists and management.

 

Specific Roles

  • Advances complex upstream process development efforts as technical lead in a cross-functional matrix environment
  • Design and execute development projects related to process development, scale up and transferring bioprocesses to pilot plants or manufacturing (cGMP) organizations
  • Demonstrates leadership and capability to mentor junior colleagues, and fosters a team environment
  • Troubleshoot scientific and technical challenges and contribute to their resolution
  • Develops and promotes innovation and utilizes novel processes using technical expertise

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

PhD degree in chemical engineering or related field with 1+ years of postgraduate experience in cell culture development

  • Advanced experience in upstream bioprocessing
  • Highly organized, self-motivated, and capable of working independently and in a collaborative environment. The successful candidate will possess strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to drive for results and generate innovative solutions. Takes the initiative to solve scientific problems and drive their resolution.
  • Strong attention to detail. Ability to develop detailed experimental plans, record procedures, analyze data, and present results.
  • Able to work in a fast paced team environment with changing priorities

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience in upstream scale up, tech transfer and industrial cell culture
  • Previous experience in leading challenging cell culture development projects or efforts
  • Demonstrated ability to synthesize information from various sources and disciplines
