2019-2020 North American Faculty Job Market Survey
We hope you consider participating in this important survey about the faculty job market.
Last year a group of former and current postdocs launched a collaborative study to bring transparency to the overall stressful and opaque process that is the faculty job market. You can find our previous work as an open access preprint, which is under review for publication at eLife.
This was an exciting start, but we have designed a second survey to address more nuanced factors in obtaining a job offer. Specifically, our new survey collects expanded demographics (underrepresented groups, visa status, etc..) and underexplored aspects of training, like institution prestige. We hope that you can distribute our survey found at the link below to your group. All who have applied for faculty jobs at any institution type between May 2019 and May 2020 in the United States or Canada are eligible to participate.
This extended version of our previous study will provide a more clear and complete picture of the complex factors influencing faculty job search success and we sincerely appreciate the time each respondent takes to complete it. To increase the relevancy of our survey to the COVID-19 pandemic, we have included questions regarding its impact on the job market this cycle. This unprecedented event has led to reports of offers being withdrawn. Thus, data collection to analyze the full impacts of COVID-19 on the faculty job market on a national scale is critical.
