Harvard Medical School Postdoctoral Recruitment Program
The Office for Postdoctoral Fellows, along with the Office for Diversity Inclusion and Community Partnership at Harvard Medical School, are holding a VIRTUAL POSTDOCTORAL RECRUITMENT PROGRAM for a select group of PhD, MD, or MD/PhD students who are nearing the completion of – or who have recently completed – their studies, and are considering a postdoctoral position in biomedical sciences as the next stage in their career development. Those selected to participate will learn about the research being done at Harvard, connect with Harvard Medical School Faculty who anticipate having postdoctoral positions available over the next 18 months, and participate in career and professional development workshops.
· Late stage* students in MD, MD/PhD, or PhD (or equivalent) programs OR those who have recently completed their degrees (*approximately 0-18 months from expected graduation)
· Applications from women and minority candidates historically underrepresented in the basic and social sciences are strongly encouraged
PARTICIPATING FACULTY AND DEPARTMENTS
All faculty are members of the Pre-clinical Science Departments at Harvard Medical School. Participating mentors and positions can be found here. Applicants may select up to three faculty with whom they are interested in connecting. Important: all communication regarding the listed programs and faculty must be directed to the Office for Postdoctoral Affairs (email@example.com). Please DO NOT contact faculty directly.
Interested candidates must complete and submit:
- Application form
- A separate letter of interest– up to 3 – tailored to each lab/faculty member with whom they would like to connect. Letters should make the connection between the candidate’s research interests and goals and the research being done in the lab.
One letter of recommendation from the candidate’s doctoral studies advisor or mentor is required. The letter should address the candidate’s likelihood for success in a postdoctoral position, emphasizing both strengths and areas for growth. Submit via: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/HMS-PRP-Mentor-Recommendation-2020 or email.
November 22, 2020 – Preferred deadline. Completed applications received by this date will receive preference.
November 29, 2020 – Final deadline.
Applications will be reviewed by Harvard Medical School faculty and administrators. Candidates are selected on the basis of the alignment of their research interests to the opportunities available at HMS and commitment to the HMS Mission and Community Values.
The program will be held over two days during the week of December 14, 2020. During this time, candidates will have the opportunity to give a brief (3-5 minute) summary of their work, meet with faculty to discuss opportunities in their department/lab, participate in a Q&A panel with current and former HMS postdocs, and attend a “Postdoc Essentials” workshop covering strategies for planning and executing a successful postdoc tenure.
