Job Opportunity: Postdoctoral Fellow, Neurobiology, Department of Cell Biology and Physiology, University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, NC

POSITION: A postdoctoral position in the laboratory of Dr. Damaris Lorenzo in the Department of Cell Biology and Physiology at the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill (UNC) ( is available immediately to study molecular and cellular mechanisms of neurodevelopmental and neurodegenerative disorders (see example of the lab’s latest publication at Cousin et al. Nature Genetics. 2021). The successful candidate will also be part of our interdisciplinary efforts to conduct genetic screens to identify disease modifiers and to develop a drug discovery pipeline. The lab provides a supportive environment that promotes individual career growth and path to independence.

PREFERRED SKILLS: The candidate must have a solid background in biochemistry and cell/molecular biology techniques. The position requires experience in histology and microscopy analysis, live cell imaging, and establishment of primary neuronal cultures. Prior experience with human induced pluripotent stem cells and/or mouse models of neurological disorders, in utero brain electroporation, stereotaxic surgery, and electrophysiology is desirable but not required.

REQUIREMENTS: PhD, MD, or MD/PhD in molecular biology, cell biology, genetics, neuroscience, or related field. The applicant must have a good publication record, as well as excellent analytical and oral and written communication skills. The applicant must possess good problem-solving and organizational skills and should demonstrate the ability to independently design and conduct experiments, complete research projects, and work effectively in a team.
