ASPIRE Internship: Science Writer Intern, Editorial Department, BioCentury Inc., (remote)
BioCentury is looking for interns in a part-time role to write brief summaries of translationally relevant preclinical studies from top biomedical journals for our monthly Distillery feature. The position requires 10 hours of work per week, and can run from six months to a year.

This work will be performed remotely under the guidance of a BioCentury Senior Editor. It is an excellent learning opportunity for self-motivated and independent candidates with a life sciences background who are interested in translational research, and who wish to learn more about the drug and diagnostics development ecosystem.
Candidates will be asked to identify the most translationally relevant experiments and conclusions of preclinical studies selected by BioCentury’s editorial team, and compose ~100-200 word summaries of each study, according to prototypes provided by BioCentury (see samples below).
The position will provide exposure to BioCentury’s leading industry analysis, including access to the company’s Editorial content and BCIQ database.

Qualifications:
- A biology, pharmacy or medical background, and proficiency in reading and understanding primary research articles, is required.
- Candidates should be able to efficiently distinguish between translationally relevant data and basic science findings within preclinical papers.
- Ability to meet deadlines, adapt to feedback and communicate questions and uncertainty effectively are absolute requirements.

Internship Details:
- Internship will run six months from January- June, 2022 with the possibility to extend to December 2022, for a total of 1 year, pending review
- Internship is paid, part-time (10 hours per week)

Eligibility requirements
- Applicants must be a current Vanderbilt University PhD student or a current postdoctoral fellow.
- All PhD students must have completed all coursework for their degree prior to the start of the internship.
- Biomedical PhD students must also have passed their qualifying exams before the application deadline.
- Students and postdocs may not participate in more than one internship at a time. More than one application may be submitted at a single time, but only one position can be accepted.
