What is the Vanderbilt Innovation Council (VIC)?
The VIC was created to help extend the reach of the Wond’ry in its efforts to build an ecosystem of innovation across Vanderbilt, Nashville, and our Region, as well as to give students the opportunity to lead the transformation of their school and community through the lens of innovation. The VIC is currently comprised of 25 members (15 graduate and 10 undergraduate). Any member in the general body can become a committee director.
Time Commitment
The VIC meets 4 times per year, 1 hour per session. All terms are 1 year.
Committee Initiatives (by role):
- Chairman**: 4 hours/month
- Vice Chairman**: 4 hours/month
- Secretary**: 4 hours/month
- Committee Directors: 2-3 hours/month
- General Body Members: 1-3 hours/month
**Exec roles that require additional work outside the committee initiatives. The time for this additional work is included in the time estimates given.
Role Descriptions
Chairman & Vice Chairman:
- Preside over GBMs
- Periodic check-ins with the Wond’ry
- Periodic check-ins with Committee Directors
- General committee involvement
**To be eligible for the Chairman role, a member must have served as: Vice Chairman, Secretary, or a Director the previous year.
Secretary:
- Documentation and Distribution of Information
- Periodic check-ins with the Wond’ry
- Periodic check-ins with Committee Directors
- General committee involvement
Committee Director:
- Management & execution of committee initiatives
- Periodic check-ins with Exec Board
- General committee involvement
Director of Communications (Tentative):
- Creation and optimization of communication channels and messaging (internal & external)
- Recruiting
- Periodic check-ins with Exec Board
**“Communications” would be a small committee of up to 3 people.
Director of Finance (Tentative):
- Management/procurement of financial resources
- Periodic check-ins with Exec Board
- General committee involvement
What initiatives will the VIC be working on?
The initiatives will fall into one of more of the three Focus Areas: Campus, Community, and Region. The exact initiatives we’ll be able to choose from will be defined before the start of the 2022-23 school year.
