Vanderbilt is again invited to nominate students to participate in the 2015 Lindau Meeting of Nobel Laureates (June 28-July 3, 2015, in Lindau, Germany).  Next year’s meeting is focused on Physics, Physiology or Medicine, and Chemistry.  We may nominate a total of 5 graduate students; details are available at the website

Please share this with all interested faculty and students, as appropriate, and note, the deadline is tight – ORAU just announced this opportunity.

All students must first meet the following general criteria:

  • be U.S. citizens currently enrolled at a university as full-time graduate students;
  • have completed by June 2015 at least two academic years of graduate studies toward a doctoral degree in physics, medicine/physiology, chemistry, or a related discipline, but not planning a dissertation/thesis defense before December 31, 2015; and
  • be actively engaged in research.

Deadlines
Please have interested faculty or students send Elizabeth Rapisarda (elizabeth.rapisarda@Vanderbilt.Edu) the following as a single pdf by Friday, Oct. 17, at 5 p.m. CT:

  • two-page (max) personal resume of the nominee;
  • one page (max) letter of reference from the nominee’s advisor; and
  • one-page (max) essay written by the nominee describing why participation in the Lindau meeting is important for the nominee’s graduate education.

The nominations will be submitted by my office, on behalf of Bob Weller, our ORAU councilor, and Vanderbilt.  Final nominations are due to ORAU by Friday, October 24, at 3 p.m. CT.  If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to let me or Bob know.

****NOTE BELOW*****

  • ORAU has just notified us, students’ personal resumes must follow the attached format
  • There is no page limit on the personal resume, or on the letter of reference.
  • ORAU’s greatest concern is that the letter of reference be a strong one, regardless of length.
  • The student essay is still limited to a single page.
