As a result of a scientist wellness survey on “Professionalism and Professional Health and Wellness of the Scientist” conducted earlier this year, Charlene Dewey, M.D., will be offering a yearlong program titled: The Year of the Scientist: Balancing Health & Science.
Dewey, associate professor of Medical Education and Administration, chairs Vanderbilt University Medical Center’s (VUMC) Faculty Wellness Committee. Topics were selected using results of the survey. The program consists of 13 one-hour Wednesday lunchtime sessions devoted to helping scientists maintain and improve wellness and address issues that impact their wellness and professional conduct. The first seminar will be Aug. 24.
All basic scientists with a Ph.D., M.D./Ph.D., MPH, MSCI, and all post-doctoral fellows involved in research (bench and/or clinical) are invited to attend any or all of the sessions focused on wellness and professionalism topics that pertain to the scientist. The sessions are sponsored by the Center for Professional Health and the Faculty Wellness Committee.
Target departments include Biochemistry, Biomedical Informatics, Biostatistics, Cancer Biology, Cell and Developmental Biology, Health Policy, Hearing and Speech Sciences, Molecular Physiology and Biophysics, Pathology, Microbiology and Immunology, and Pharmacology.
Registration is required. Scientists who are interested in attending or who have questions can email their name, department, email address and the session(s) they wish to attend email@example.com. The list of topics, dates and locations can be found at www.mc.vanderbilt.edu/cph.
