CIRTL Coffee Hour for Postdocs

Kate Stuart
September 9, 2013

CIRTL is inviting you to join them for a series of panel discussions designed around the theme of Career Development. The first of the series is being held this coming Monday, Sept 9, 2013, 3:45 – 5:15 p.m.  in 110 Featheringill Hall.  The topic is Careers in STEM.  The background to the series is described below.  Please join us and invite other postdocs who you know to come with you.

The Center for Integration of Research, Teaching and Learning (CIRTL) (www.cirtl.net )is a 23 institution consortium that is focused on preparing future faculty. Anita Mahadevan-Jansen (a Biomedical Engineering faculty member) serves as Director of the Vanderbilt arm of CIRTL. In her role as Director of VU-CIRTL, she has developed a new program for postdoctoral fellows in STEM disciplines to be hosted this academic year via the CIRTL coffee hour. CIRTL Coffee Hours are informal, discussion-based events that feature a panel of individuals sharing from their own perspectives and experiences on a topic. A portion of the Coffee Hour time is devoted to discussion. This program will be offered on the second Monday of the month.

The program has been designed with Vanderbilt postdocs (who have no formal recognition at this time) in mind but will be offered across the CIRTL network at all 23 CIRTL institutions. The format of the Postdoc coffee hour will be – 15 minutes of greeting time locally, 4-5 pm CT online hour (using Blackboard Collaborate, a CIRTL resource) followed by 15-30 min of free time to give the postdocs time for more discussion with local panelists if they should want to.

We would love to have you join us physically, but if you are unable to do so and wish to join the coffee hour via the internet at any time during the hour, the instructions are on the attached flyer.

The full list of CIRTL Coffee Hour seminars is attached. If you have questions, feel free to contact Jean Alley, Program Coordinator – Biomedical Photonics Group, Department of Biomedical Engineering, 311 FEL Building, 615-343-2766, jean.alley@vanderbilt.edu
