“Regulation of antimicrobial neutrophil functions by small GTPases” (starting immediately; PhD track; Dr. rer. nat.)

The project is integrated in the International Research Training Group 1911 “Immunoregulation of Inflammation in Allergy and Infection“ funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG) which offers a structured international doctoral program. The program is organized by the University of Lübeck in cooperation with the University of Cincinnati and Cincinnati Children’s Hospital, Cincinnati, OH, USA and promotes systematic research cooperation between the German and the US institutions allowing expeditious research-related qualification of doctoral researchers.
The University of Lübeck is a modern Life-Science University with ten academic programs including Medicine, Informatics, Medical Informatics, Molecular Life Science, Infection Biology, Mathematics in Medicine and Life Science and Medical Engineering.
The major goal of the International Research Training Group 1911 is to provide an international network of training and research centered around projects that aim at identifying novel pathways that initiate, maintain and resolve chronic infectious and allergic diseases. The research program is supplemented by a structured qualification and cross-border supervisory concept with defined training modules integrating student exchanges between the German and the US partner institutions. The qualification concept comprises an IRTG-specific seminar that integrates visiting researchers, jointly held courses, a yearly retreat, an international symposium, a mandatory 6 -12 months lab visit of the US partner lab and individualized educational as well as mentoring programs. This framework is designed to convey skills to the doctoral researchers that qualify for the domestic and the international job market within a period of three years.
The project aims to clarify how the small GTPases neutrophil life span and antimicrobial effector functions of neutrophil granulocytes as well as the role of neutrophils for the resolution of infection and inflammation. The project will be carried in cooperation with Marie-Dominique Filippi, Ph.D., Cincinnati Children’s Hospital.

We are looking for a highly motivated and qualified candidate with strong interest and background in immunology. Requirements include a master degree (or equivalent) with excellent grades in biology, biochemistry or related sciences. Solid command of the English language is essential.
The positions will be paid according to the regulations of the civil service collective wage agreement (TV‐L 65% of level E13, approx. 1350 EUR/month).
