Positions are available for Postdoctoral Fellows in the laboratory of Dr. Rob Welner, PhD for studies of leukemic stem cell maintenance and changes within the microenvironment during leukemogenesis. These positions are in the Department of Medicine in the Division of Hematology/Oncology.
The lab focuses on: (1) deciphering the gene regulatory network within cells of the leukemic microenvironment that inhibit normal hematopoiesis; (2) dissecting the heterogeneity of leukemic stem cells using primary patient samples; and (3) understanding the genetic program and functionality of adaptive immune cells during leukemic exposure. Recent publication for reference: Cancer Cell 2015,11;27(5):671-81.
This position is seeking a highly motivated, energetic, research-oriented individual with a strong background in molecular or cellular biology and experience in studying hematopoiesis will be preferred. An MD or Ph.D. degree is required and is expected to have at least one first author publication in an internationally recognized journal. We aim to be a highly collaborative team, and the ability to work successfully with other investigators is critical.
The Division of Hematology-Oncology is part of the NCI-funded Comprehensive Cancer Center, one of the nation's leading cancer research and treatment centers. There is access to several outstanding interdisciplinary programs including the UAB CTSI, the Alabama Drug Discovery Alliance, flagship programs in Genomics/personalized medicine (in collaboration with the Hudson Alpha Institute of Biotechnology) and Informatics, and advanced medical imaging.
