Postdoctoral and postgraduate research opportunities in Neuroscience

Employer: Loyola University Chicago, Stritch School of Medicine.

Location: Maywood (Chicago), Illinois, United States.

Job description:

The Department of Molecular Pharmacology and Therapeutics at Loyola University Chicago is recruiting postdoctoral and postgraduate scientists for a newly funded project investigating molecular and cellular precursors of stress-related psychiatric illness, including schizophrenia. The Department is located adjacent to the School of Medicine, in the new, state-of-art Center for Translational Research and Education.

The project includes pharmacological investigations of primary neuronal cells from transgenic mice and mice exposed to environmental stress, RNAseq analyses, analyses of mouse behavior, the identification of molecular genetic abnormalities in postmortem brain tissue and investigations of iPSC-derived neuronal cultures from psychiatric patients.

We are recruiting scientists with expertise in molecular and cellular biology and a background in neuroscience. Essential skills include PCR, western blotting, fluorescent imaging of synapses, behavioral analyses of transgenic mice and an understanding of genetics. Experience with human iPSC culture is desirable but not essential. For more information about our research, please see http://sodhilaboratory.strikingly.com

Job requirements:

For the postdoctoral position, a Ph.D. or MD/Ph.D. in neuroscience or psychiatric genetics is required, and at least one publication in a peer-reviewed journal as first author. For the graduate assistant position, a B.S. or M.S. with a major in genetics or cell biology, and prior laboratory experience are required.

Requirements: Interested individuals should email a single pdf file including the following documents to Dr. Monsheel Sodhi at msodhi@luc.edu.
