Recruiting Postdoctoral Scholar in Biochemistry & Molecular Biology

A postdoctoral position is available for a highly motivated individual interested in understanding the molecular mechanisms of a cascade of enzymes that regulate nearly every facet of cell biology in humans. Specifically, research in the lab is focused on enzymes in the ubiquitin pathway.  We aim to answer questions such as how these enzymes function to maintain homeostasis and how their dysregulation leads to disease states. We also aim to enhance our understanding of the basis for plasticity in protein-protein interactions by elucidating how this class of enzymes achieves substrate specificity and promiscuity.  These issues will be addressed using a multidisciplinary approach that includes X-ray crystallography complemented with biochemical/biophysical techniques and yeast genetics.

Candidates who have received a Ph.D. in biochemistry/biophysics or a related area in the past three years and are skilled in standard molecular biology techniques, recombinant protein expression and purification are preferred.  Experience in protein crystallization, X-ray data collection, and structure determination is not required but is a plus.

Interested candidates should apply online at www.jobs.musc.edu/applicants/Central?quickFind=190999  and submit a curriculum vitae and contact information for three references by e-mail to olsensk@musc.edu.
