Full Description: Applicants should have interests focusing on classroom learning or curriculum design and implementation in interdisciplinary science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) fields.
The position involves participation in the Interdisciplinary Science and Research (ISR) Program, a partnership with Metropolitan Nashville Public Schools, with support from the National Institutes of Health. The goal of this project is to enhance student understanding of STEM concepts and research principles and to empower teachers through scientific research. The program transitions students from understanding the basics of scientific disciplines in the first year to performing independent research in their junior and senior years.
The postdoctoral fellow will work with principal investigator Dr. Virginia Shepherd and other members of the Center for Science Outreach (CSO) and will participate in project and curricular design, implementation, data collection, analysis, and publication of results. The principal investigator will encourage the postdoctoral fellow to develop instructional units, guided student research projects, and publications that build on his or her research expertise in the context of an evolving K-12 interdisciplinary STEM curriculum.
Applicants should have an earned doctorate in science, mathematics, engineering, or a related field, with significant experience in bench research and experimental design. Applicants will ideally have expertise and experience with qualitative and quantitative data analysis.
