Western Kentuckky University Department of Chemistry seeks a highly motivated postdoctoral fellow in Biochemistry/Molecular Biology in the Kim laboratory at Western Kentucky University. . Our research focuses primarily on the development of novel molecular tools to detect pathogens and biomarkers for common disease (Nucleic Acids Research, 2011,39(5): e29) and the identification of novel bioactive compounds from natural product and their target proteins for common disease prevention.

Some secondary metabolites from natural plants exhibit biological activities. Among them, sesquiterpene lactones have been shown to possess a wide variety of biological properties such as anti-tumoral, anti-inflammatory, and anti-microbial activities. We are interested in identifying novel sesquiterpene lactones from natural product. We systematically investigate the effect of sesquiterpene lactones on the expression of cyclooxygenase-2, and the modulation of NF-êB and DNA methylation. We are also aiming at the identification of a promising target protein interacting with bioactive compound sesquiterpene lactone. This study will provide a new insight into an understanding of molecular and biochemical mechanism associated with functionality of bioactive compounds.

Applicants must hold a recent Ph.D. with a strong background in Biochemistry, Molecular Biology or related field. Applicants with experience in mammalian cell culture, cell-based experiments, bioactive compounds, and transcription factors (Zinc Finger Proteins, Transcriptional activator-like effectors (TALEs)) would be desirable. Excellent communication skills, including command of manuscript writing and the capacity to interact with other lab members are essential.

Please submit a letter of interest including previous research experience and research goal, CV, and the names, email address and phone numbers of threereferences to Moon-Soo Kim at
