POSTDOCTORAL RESEARCH POSITION at Vanderbilt University beginning fall 2014. Applicants should have interests focusing on classroom teaching as well as curriculum design and implementation in interdisciplinary science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) fields.

Department

Center for Science Outreach

Full Description

The position involves participation in the School for Science and Math at Vanderbilt (SSMV), a partnership with Metropolitan Nashville Public Schools.  The SSMV offers high school students a four-year, interdisciplinary, research-centered learning experience at one of the nation's most prestigious universities, where internationally recognized faculty are leading the way in diverse fields of scientific study.  Students pursue a curriculum that connects sciences, technology, engineering, and mathematics through meaningful and engaging hands-on exploration with increasing depth and independence. During the academic year, students attend classes on the Vanderbilt campus one full day per week.

The postdoctoral fellow will work with principal investigator Dr. Virginia Shepherd and other members of the Center for Science Outreach (CSO) and will participate in project and curricular design, implementation, data collection, analysis, and publication of results. In addition, the postdoctoral fellow will contribute to the expansion and replication of the SSMV program model at other universities. The principal investigator will encourage the postdoctoral fellow to develop instructional units, guided student research projects, and publications that build on his or her research expertise in the context of an evolving high school interdisciplinary STEM curriculum.
