The Serezani Laboratory is looking to have an outstanding postdoc to study the mechanisms involved in exaggerated inflammatory response that occurs during sepsis. Exaggerated inflammation leads to organ injury and morbidities associated with sepsis. Furthermore, we study how people and mice with diabetes handle systemic infections. This project is funded by the NIH and we will be studying how phosphatases and microRNAs intersect to decrease signaling programs involved in both bacterial recognition and effector mechanisms involved in cell death.

Yale’s MD-PhD Program is seeking a motivated professional to fill a newly designed educational support role. Reporting to the Director of Yale’s MD-PhD Program, the Assistant Director of Program Development and Assessment will provide expertise and support for the development and implementation of educational activities within the MD-PhD program and establish processes to evaluate their effectiveness and impact. This position will be responsible for developing ongoing mechanisms so that the work of our program is informed by data.

Applications are being accepted for the 2018 Competition of the iBiology Young Scientist Seminars (YSS). In collaboration with the Albert and Mary Lasker Foundation and the Alan Alda Center for Communicating Science at Stony Brook University, iBiology hosts the YSS video series that features PhD candidates and postdocs giving talks about their research. Selected presenters participate in a multi-day science communication seminar at the University of California, San Francisco, as well as receive a $500 honorarium.

AAU Vice President for Policy Toby Smith to talk, Nov 6

Toby Smith, Vice President for Policy at the Association of American Universities, will present a talk on U.S. science policy including a discussion of the historical origins of government support for the U.S. scientific enterprise.  He will also talk about the current political and fiscal climate, its impacts on science and policy, and how scientists and engineers can effectively advocate for science in the polarized political environment that exists both in Washington D.C. and throughout the country.

Event: Engaging the Public with Social Media, presented by AAAS

This 1- hour seminar will provide guidance to scientists who wish to engage publics via social media. It is designed to build skills for public engagement via social media, confidence in social media as a way to engage public audiences, and appreciation for public engagement approaches.
