The Presidential Management Fellows Class of 2018 application deadline has been extended!

The Presidential Management Fellows Program Office is extending the Application Period for the PMF Class of 2018 to Noon EST on Monday, November 6th to allow for applicants in areas impacted by recent natural disasters sufficient time to complete an application. The application period will be extended for all applicants.

The interdisciplinary field of data science has become a sought-after career for PhDs in science and engineering disciplines, but what does a data scientist really do and how do postdocs and graduate students break into this field? In this talk, we’ll explore (1) activities of a data science team at a small healthcare startup and (2) tangible actions you can take to break into a healthcare data science career. Information and discussion will focus primarily on career development steps and advice for postdocs and graduate students and early-career data scientists.

2018 Competition for the iBiology Young Scientist Seminars (YSS), Applications due December 10

Applications are being accepted for the 2018 Competition of the iBiology Young Scientist Seminars (YSS). In collaboration with the Albert and Mary Lasker Foundation and the Alan Alda Center for Communicating Science at Stony Brook University, iBiology hosts the YSS video series that features PhD candidates and postdocs giving talks about their research. Selected presenters participate in a multi-day science communication seminar at the University of California, San Francisco, as well as receive a $500 honorarium.

The BOLD Fellows program helps graduate students from all disciplines design and develop online learning experiences, from building online learning modules to fostering online spaces for their students to interact. Each Fellow works with a faculty member who has identified a teaching “problem” in a particular course, working to develop a potential solution, integrate it into the faculty member’s course, and gather data on its impact on student learning.

TWISTER Internship 2017: The Adventure Science Center (ASC) is an independent, not-for-profit educational institution that ignites curiosity and inspires the lifelong discovery of science. TWISTER (Tennessee Women in Science, Technology, Engineering & Research) is a daylong professional conference for high school girls, presented by women working in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Research) professions. Adventure Science Center’s Education Department seeks an intern to assist with planning and coordinating the TWISTER 2018 conference event. The TWISTER Intern will sit on the TWISTER planning committee and play an integral role in presenter and volunteer acquisition, session planning, and data analysis.
