ACS Science Policy Fellowship

The ACS Science Policy Fellowship Program places one fellow in the ACS Office of Public Affairs (OPA) for one to two years. The fellow works with experienced OPA staff to provide information to policy-makers on the role of science in public policy, advance specific recommendations on issues affecting the chemical enterprise, and inform and involve ACS members in the policy process.

The purpose of the Certificate in College Teaching, co-sponsored by the Center for Teaching and the Graduate School, is to assist graduate students and post doctoral fellows who wish to gain a clearer, deeper, more active approach to teaching and learning in higher education. The certificate focuses on the research on how people learn and best teaching practices, and supports the university’s pursuit of excellence in teaching and learning.

The SoTL Scholars Program introduces participants to the principles and practices of the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning, an international, multidisciplinary field of disciplinary specialists studying student learning. SoTL is a synthesis of teaching, learning, and research in higher education that aims to bring a scholarly lens—the curiosity, the inquiry, the rigor, the disciplinary variety—to what happens in the classroom. SoTL asks expert disciplinary researchers to apply and extend those skills into the classroom.

The BOLD Fellows program is designed to help graduate student/faculty teams build expertise in developing online instructional modules grounded in good course design principles and our understanding of how people learn. STEM faculty members partner with graduate students or postdocs to design and develop online modules for integration into a course, either as a tool to promote flipping the classroom, a module for a blended course, or a unit within a MOOC.

The PMF Advisory Council at the State Department and USAID is hosting a Google+ Hangout for 2014 PMF finalists on Wednesday, April 23, from 7:00 PM to 8:30 PM EST.  This "virtual panel" will include a diverse group of past and present State/USAID PMFs to provide Finalists with perspectives on common questions about getting a job at State, life as a PMF at State, etc.

Scientist in the Classroom Information Session

Are you interested in teaching or learning how to communicate science but don't know where to begin?  Then join the Center for Science Outreach and your peers for an informational session on how to get started.  Learn how you can get involved in the Nashville community by working with K-8 students and teaching science one day a week.  We are currently accepting applications for interested graduate students and postdoctoral fellows.  Graduate students earn a topping up stipend of up to 7.5K!
