Kathy Gould, Ph.D., is the Associate Dean for Biomedical Sciences, the Director of Graduate Student Support at Vanderbilt University School of Medicine, a Louise B. McGavock Professor, and Professor of Cell and Developmental Biology. Dr. Gould oversees the activities of the BRET Office of Career Development, working with the directors of graduate studies for each Ph.D. program affiliated with the School of Medicine to support graduate student training.
Dr. Gould received her A.B. degree from University of California, Berkeley, and her Ph.D. from the University of California, San Diego, and was a Fellow of the Jane Coffin Childs Memorial Fund with Sir Paul Nurse at Oxford University. She became an Investigator of the Howard Hughes Medical Institute shortly after establishing her own laboratory at Vanderbilt University, where her laboratory focuses on obtaining a mechanistic understanding of how cell division is achieved and regulated.(615) 343-9502

Kim Petrie, Ph.D., launched the BRET Office of Career Development for biomedical sciences graduate students and postdoctoral fellows in 2005 and is currently the Director. Dr. Petrie is also an Assistant Professor of Medical Administration with the Vanderbilt University School of Medicine. Dr. Petrie provides individual career advising appointments, develops career and professional development programs and workshops, develops relationships with alumni and employers, and administers exit interviews for graduate students and postdoctoral fellows.
Dr. Petrie received a BA in Biology from Lawrence University and her PhD in Pharmacology from Vanderbilt University. Dr. Petrie is a member of the Graduate Career Consortium and the faculty advisor for the Vanderbilt University Advanced Degree Consulting Club.(615) 322-6885

Ashley E. Brady, Ph.D., is Director of Career Engagement and Strategic Partnerships and the ASPIRE Program Manager for the Office of Career Development. She manages the design, development, and delivery of curricula and programs to provide professional skills training for biomedical sciences PhD students and postdoctoral fellows. She is also responsible for developing and managing relationships with internal and external partners, and providing career advising services for trainees.
Prior to her role in the BRET office, Dr. Brady served as Associate Director of Foundation Relations at Vanderbilt University. In this role, she cultivated relationships with private foundations and served as a match-maker to help faculty and trainees identify and apply for non-federal funding opportunities. Dr. Brady obtained her Ph.D. in Pharmacology from Vanderbilt University in 2003. She pursued post-doctoral studies at both the Centre Nationale de Researche Scientifique (CNRS) in Montpellier, France and the Department of Pharmacology at Vanderbilt University.(615) 343-0033

Kate Stuart is the Program Manager for the Office of Career Development. She writes the bi-weekly career newsletter, facilitates PhD Career Connections events as well as the annual Career Symposium, and manages the BRET website.
After completing her undergraduate degree at Vanderbilt University, she spent time doing corporate communications for a hospital in Athens, GA, and then in 2007, began work for the Vanderbilt Alumni Association. Her role there was to connect undergraduate students to alumni for career advice in the form of small dinners, advice panels, and a resource guide. Kate also provided resources for alumni in career transition, including a webinar series, a job posting site, and career seminars in different cities.(615) 875-8981

Angela Zito is the Program Manager for the Office of Career Development. In her role, Angela will focus on professional development opportunities, include the module program.
After completing her BA in Psychology at CSU Sacramento, she went on to receive her MEd in Higher Education Administration at Vanderbilt University. She began working for the Commons Center during her graduate program, and continued on with Vanderbilt Student Centers working on training and development programs for the undergraduate student employees.
