The UCI-GPS (Graduate Professional Success) Program invites applications for the full-time position of Academic Coordinator. Under the direction of the Program Director, the position will be responsible for the management and administration of UCI-GPS (Graduate Professional Success), a professional development program for graduate students and postdocs in the biomedical sciences. Responsibilities include: coordinating all of the activities including career development workshops, mixers, and seminar series; organizing an annual orientation event and the registration process for participants; and building a mentor program that matches UCI alumni with current trainees. In consultation with the Program Director and other participants, the administrator will invite speakers for workshops, seminars and mixers, and will serve as the primary liaison with internship partners and with an external program evaluator. The administrator will contribute to building a database to track participants, and to maintaining a program website and advertising events and activities, while delegating some of these tasks to a Staff Assistant. The administrator will attend an annual meeting of professional development programs at the National Institutes of Health, will contribute to the writing of annual progress reports, and may contribute to publications describing program achievements.

Requirements include either an MS or a PhD in a research discipline of biomedical science; experience as a postdoctoral scholar at a research institution or company; demonstrated skill and success in both oral and written communications with a broad array of constituents in person, through e-mail, formal letters, and via telephone in a concise, accurate and professional manner; demonstrated ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships, communicate effectively, identify problems and develop solutions with supervisors, administrators, students, faculty and the community; ability to work on multiple tasks concurrently while meeting deadlines, Ability to work independently and follow through on assignments with minimal direction; ability to perform a variety of duties and work assignments in an environment of frequent interruptions and/or distractions and changing priorities; high level of fluency in using business software applications including MS Office (Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Outlook, Access); experience managing a budget; demonstrated success in effectively utilizing computing networks, the internet, web search procedures, and electronic mail systems; demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality and security of records and documents.
