Dr. Rachel Lippert is originally from Clyde, Ohio and studied Chemistry and English at Albion College in Albion, Michigan from 2004 to 2008. During her subsequent doctoral studies at Vanderbilt University, the 35-year-old studied the function of the melanocortin-3 receptor, which is involved in maintaining a balance between food intake and energy consumption and thus a stable body weight under the direction of Drs. Roger Cone and Kate\u00a0Ellacott. She successfully completed her doctoral thesis in 2014 and then moved on to Professor Jens Br\u00fcning\u2019s Department of \u201cNeuronal Control of Metabolism\u201d at the Max Planck Institute for Metabolism Research in Cologne, Germany. There, she used a mouse model to investigate how the mother\u2019s\u00a0diet affects the developing brain of her offspring, specifically focusing on the dopaminergic system.
