She has used genetic techniques in a variety of model organisms to characterize the molecular mechanisms that set up a properly functioning nervous system. Currently, her\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/sites.google.com\/kenyon.edu\/petersenlab\/home?authuser=0\">research group<\/a>\u00a0uses zebrafish to understand the interactions between neurons and glia and their environments during neurodevelopment. Their work in this field is supported by a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nsf.gov\/awardsearch\/showAward?AWD_ID=1941664\">National Science Foundation CAREER Award<\/a>.<\/em><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><em>Prior to Kenyon, Petersen was a postdoctoral fellow in the Department of Developmental Biology at Washington University at St. Louis.
