Microbiology sectors include but are not limited to academia, industry, government, nonprofit and entrepreneurship.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"content-heading\">Program Details<\/h3>\n<p>In the first year, mentees will be matched with a team of mentors and participate in skillset training, structured mentoring, community building and networking activities at\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/asm.org\/Events\/ASM-Microbe\">ASM Microbe<\/a>. In the second year, mentees will become peer mentors to the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/abrcms.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Annual Biomedical Research Conference for Minority Students (ABRCMS)<\/a>\u00a0undergraduate students in the microbiology discipline and serve as ABRCMS session moderators. In an optional third year, selected mentees will be invited to serve as an ASM mentoring ambassador to incoming cohorts and an ABRCMS judge.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"content-heading\">Eligibility<\/h3>\n<h4>Mentee Eligibility<\/h4>\n<p>Mentees must meet the following criteria:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/asm.org\/Membership\">Be an ASM member<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>Be a U.S. citizen, permanent resident\u00a0or DACA eligible.<\/li>\n<li>Be from an underrepresented population (racial and ethnic backgrounds, individuals with disabilities and disadvantaged backgrounds).<\/li>\n<li>Be a senior undergraduate, postbaccalaureate\u00a0or\u00a0graduate student (master&#8217;s and doctoral).<\/li>\n<li>Plan to attend\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/asm.org\/Events\/ASM-Microbe\">ASM Microbe<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>Have a\u00a0primary area of interest or interdisciplinary studies\u00a0within the microbial sciences.<\/li>\n<li>Commit to a two-year collaboration\u00a0within mentoring relationships and incoming cohorts.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Applicants are strongly encouraged to\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/asm.org\/Events\/ASM-Microbe\/Abstracts\">submit an abstract for presentation at ASM Microbe<\/a>. Preference will be given to individuals who have an accepted abstract to present at ASM Microbe.<\/p>\n<h4>Mentor Eligibility<\/h4>\n<p>Mentors must meet the following requirements:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/asm.org\/Membership\">Be an ASM member<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>Be a nonstudent (e.g., postdoctoral scientists, research scientist, faculty\u00a0or administrator in any employment sector)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3 class=\"content-heading\">Apply<\/h3>\n<h3><strong>Mentee application<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Your ASM username and password will be required to apply for the fellowship. The application does not need to be done in one sitting.
