The program supports students who identify as being from an underrepresented background in science,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/grants.nih.gov\/grants\/guide\/notice-files\/NOT-OD-20-031.html\">as defined by the NIH<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The application period closes\u00a0<strong>March 18, 2022,\u00a0<\/strong>and the program runs from June 2022 to June 2023.<\/p>\n<p>Students can expect the following key benefits:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Networking<\/strong>\u00a0with accomplished scientists, leaders, and peers from diverse backgrounds<\/li>\n<li><strong>Training from leading experts<\/strong>\u00a0to demystify the post-PhD transition and improve\u00a0<strong>planning, mentoring and communication skills<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Personalized materials for the PhD to postdoc transition<\/strong>, including an individualized post-PhD transition plan, a well-crafted personal narrative for identity-building and networking, a polished 20-minute scientific talk, and expert training and advice to make public engagement more meaningful and strategic.<\/li>\n<li><strong>All-expenses paid travel to Yale<\/strong>\u00a0for two in-person meetings in June 2022 and 2023 (COVID-19 permitting)<\/li>\n<li>Joining our\u00a0<strong>YCA alumni network<\/strong>\u00a0(&gt;200 peers), with access to sample fellowships and professional opportunity announcements<\/li>\n<li>Bringing\u00a0<strong>new resources to their lab and institution<\/strong>\u00a0through the optional participation of their research advisor in our YCA Advisor Academy<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Additional information about the program, eligibility guidelines, and the application can be found at:\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cienciapr.org\/yca\">www.cienciapr.org\/yca<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The YCA is an NIH-funded initiative to equip doctoral students interested in biological, biomedical or behavioral research and who are in the final 1.5-2 years of their programs with the knowledge, skills, and networks they need to find great postdoctoral positions that will further their academic interests and career goals.
