The Division of Cancer Care and Epidemiology at Queen’s Cancer Research Institute (QCRI)
\ninvites applications for the Patricia A. Wood MD PhD\/ Baruch Spinoza Common Sense
\nOncology Fellowship. This Fellowship will provide hands-on methodologic training in health
\nservices research and cancer policy.<\/p>\n
The Fellow will be based at the Queen\u2019s Cancer Research This is a one-year Fellowship with an expected start date of July 2024. Requirements<\/strong> The CSO Fellow will have the opportunity to lead peer-reviewed publications and\/or policy papers. This Fellowship is supported with funding from Dr. William Hrushesky.<\/p>\n
\nInstitute (Kingston, Canada) but will work with leaders of the Common Sense Oncology
\nmovement from around the world. Fellowship training will be consistent with the core principles
\nof the Common Sense Oncology movement (www.commonsenseoncology.org<\/a>).
\nApplications are invited from individuals with diverse backgrounds and experiences who have
\nrecently completed (or will soon complete) their clinical training in medical oncology.
\nCancer Care and Epidemiology (CCE) at QCRI is a group of 16 physician-scientists and career
\nscientists with expertise in cancer epidemiology, outcomes research, cancer policy, biostatistics,
\nhealth economics, and clinical decision-making, as well as medical oncology, surgical oncology,
\nradiation oncology, palliative care, and oncology nursing. CCE has three research themes: health
\nservices research, cancer policy, and global oncology.<\/p>\n
\nWhile the emphasis of the program is on acquisition of research and policy skills, Fellows may
\nhave the opportunity for a limited amount of clinical work to enable them to maintain their
\nclinical expertise during the Fellowship.<\/p>\n
\nThe ideal candidate for this Fellowship will have recently completed (<5 years) or will soon
\ncomplete clinical training in medical oncology and have demonstrated interest in principles of
\ncommon sense oncology, including – but not limited to – clinical trial design, patient-centred
\noutcomes, value of care, health equity, global oncology, and\/or shared decision-making. The
\ngoal of the Fellowship is to foster critical thinkers in oncology who can lead future CSO
\ninitiatives. Individuals from within \u2013 and outside \u2013 Canada are invited to apply.<\/p>\n
\nQueen\u2019s University is located in Kingston, Canada – a historic medium-sized city on the shores
\nof Lake Ontario. Queen\u2019s Cancer Research Institute is internationally regraded for its
\ncontributions to cancer care and research and is home to the Canadian Cancer Trials Group.<\/p>\n
