Well, here\u2019s the next best thing. Drawing on the advice of the many science journalists whose insights inform\u00a0<em>The Open Notebook<\/em>, this course cracks open these private conversations between journalist and source to reveal best practices: who to interview, how to frame effective questions, and how to establish rapport while remaining in charge of the conversation. By the end of this free course, you\u2019ll know how to get the best possible information for your story from any source. Emily\u2019s lessons draw not only on her classroom experience but on insights from the many science journalists who have shared their work processes with\u00a0<em>The Open Notebook<\/em>\u00a0over the years through hundreds of\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/opennotebook-2022.mystagingwebsite.com\/category\/elements-of-craft\/reported-features\/\">articles<\/a>\u00a0on craft, writer\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/opennotebook-2022.mystagingwebsite.com\/category\/interviews\/\">interviews<\/a>,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/opennotebook-2022.mystagingwebsite.com\/category\/elements-of-craft\/storygrams\/\">annotations<\/a>\u00a0of notable stories, and our\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/opennotebook-2022.mystagingwebsite.com\/category\/elements-of-craft\/ask-ton\/\">Ask\u00a0<em>TON<\/em><\/a>\u00a0advice column.<\/p>\n<p>Our Science Journalism Master Classes are free, thanks to a generous grant from\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.kavlifoundation.org\/\">The Kavli Foundation<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h3>Here\u2019s How It Works<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Each course drills into one skill or habit, presented in a series of five to eight lessons, delivered by email.\u00a0<strong>You can sign up for our courses at any time and get started immediately\u2014there\u2019s no set start date.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>You are welcome to take any or all courses, in any order. We recommend taking only one at a time.<\/li>\n<li>You can choose to have lessons delivered either daily (weekdays only, starting the next day) or weekly (starting the same day). You\u2019ll receive a welcome email immediately. (If after signing up for a course you don\u2019t see a welcome email within a few minutes, check your spam\/junk\/trash folder and, if you use Gmail, your promotions tab.
