{"id":3451,"date":"2014-09-12T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2014-09-12T05:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/medschool.prd.vanderbilt.edu\/career-development\/2014\/09\/12\/phd-career-connections-college-teaching\/"},"modified":"2023-01-12T14:44:45","modified_gmt":"2023-01-12T20:44:45","slug":"phd-career-connections-college-teaching","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/medschool.vanderbilt.edu\/career-development\/2014\/09\/12\/phd-career-connections-college-teaching\/","title":{"rendered":"PhD Career Connections: College Teaching"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Join us as we talk to two professors in different academic settings.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><strong>Tuesday, October 14<\/strong><br \/><strong>9:00-10:00am<\/strong><br \/><strong>PRB 206<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><span><span>Mark Forsyth, PhD,\u00a0<\/span><span>Associate Professor, The College of William and Mary<\/span><span><br \/>Yanice M\u00e9ndez-Fernandez,\u00a0<\/span><span>Assistant Professor, Trevecca Nazarene University<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\">\u00a0<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.eventbrite.com\/e\/phd-career-connections-college-teaching-tickets-13093736719\"><strong>Registration kindly requested.<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left\"><strong>Mark Forsyth, PhD<\/strong><br \/>Mark Forsyth, PhD, is an associate professor of Biology at The College of William &amp; Mary and has been there since 2000. \u00a0He was a postdoctoral fellow at VUMC in the Infectious Disease Division from 1995 to 2000 and was a post doc at University of Connecticut from 1991-1995. \u00a0His graduate work was with the Pathobiology Department at University of Connecticut and his undergraduate was at the University of Maine, his home! \u00a0Forsyth&#8217;s current research involves bacterial pathogenesis, specifically, the human gastric pathogen,\u00a0<em>Helicobacter pylori<\/em>. \u00a0<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left\"><span><strong>Yanice M\u00e9ndez-Fernandez<\/strong><br \/>Dr. M\u00e9ndez was born and raised in Puerto Rico, where she earned a Bachelor degree in Biology from the University of Puerto Rico in Rio Piedras.\u00a0\u00a0She obtained a PhD in Biomedical Sciences with a specialization in Immunology from the Mayo Clinic College of Medicine in Rochester, MN.\u00a0\u00a0She spent 5 years as a post-doctoral fellow in the Deparment of Microbiology and Immunology and 3 years as a Research Assistant Professor in the Department of Medicine, Division of Cardiovascular Medicine at Vanderbilt University.\u00a0\u00a0She currently teaches at Trevecca Nazarene University in Nashville and holds an adjunct position in the Division of Cardiovascular Medicine at Vanderbilt.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Join us as we talk to two professors in different academic settings.
