Since 1985, amfAR has invested more than $415 million in its programs and has awarded more than 3,300 grants to research teams worldwide.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>PRIMARY FUNCTION<\/strong>:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The Associate Director, Research assists the VP in developing and implementing amfAR&rsquo;s biomedical research agenda; develops, leads, and manages several of amfAR&rsquo;s research grant portfolios; manages day-to-day operations and activities of those research portfolios; monitors and evaluates grantee progress and the effectiveness of those portfolios; works with the VP to design and implement modifications to those granting programs where appropriate<\/li>\n<li>Participates as a member of amfAR&rsquo;s senior staff<\/li>\n<li>Manages a portfolio of 30+ grants.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES<\/strong>:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Assists in development of a strategic plan to support and promote cutting-edge research and implements the adopted strategic plan<\/li>\n<li>Maintains solid working relationships with the VP, Dir Research and with other members of the senior staff to integrate research endeavors with amfAR&rsquo;s other program, communications, and fundraising divisions<\/li>\n<li>Helps design a plan to raise the profile and influence of amfAR&rsquo;s research efforts in collaboration with the VP, other members of the senior management team, and the Program Advisory Committee<\/li>\n<li>Maintains and develops relationships with the Program Advisory Committee, Scientific Advisory Committee and peer reviewers<\/li>\n<li>Monitors and analyzes biomedical research issues in a rapidly-changing environment<\/li>\n<li>Works with amfAR&rsquo;s communications and fundraising teams to help raise awareness of and support for amfAR&rsquo;s research efforts<\/li>\n<li>Represents amfAR at various national meetings<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>QUALIFICATIONS<\/strong>:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>A master&rsquo;s or doctoral degree in biomedical science (in the area of HIV or infectious diseases preferred)<\/li>\n<li>Knowledge of biomedical science and its funding<\/li>\n<li>Outstanding verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to communicate complex scientific issues in lay language&nbsp;<\/li>\n<li>Demonstrated ability to work effectively outside the laboratory with activists, policy makers and the media&nbsp;<\/li>\n<li>At ease dealing with controversial issues&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/li>\n<li>Team-building and collaborative&nbsp;<\/li>\n<li>Well-organized, clear-thinking, strategic and decisive&nbsp;<\/li>\n<li>Flexibility to travel to off-site meetings and work hours in excess of a normal day&nbsp;<\/li>\n<li>A personal commitment to amfAR&rsquo;s mission and programs<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Interested applicants should forward their resume, NIH biosketch, cover letter and salary requirement to: <a href=\"mailto:jobslb@amfar.org\">jobslb@amfar.org<\/a> with ref code:LI1<\/p>\n<p>We are an Equal Opportunity Employer<\/p>\n<p><strong>No agencies please.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>*Note: this job is looking to hire advanced postdocs and early alumni.* Good luck!
