A shared focus on cardiovascular health unites our more than 33 million volunteers and supporters as well as our more than 3,400 employees. Our size and scope let us have real impact. We have invested more than $4.1 billion in research, more than any U.S. nonprofit organization.<\/p>\n<p>Heart disease is the No. 1 killer worldwide, and stroke ranks second globally. Even when those conditions don\u2019t result in death, they cause disability and diminish quality of life. We want to see a world free of cardiovascular diseases and stroke.\u00a0 The AHA is working to improve the cardiovascular health of all Americans by 20 percent, and reduce deaths from cardiovascular diseases and stroke by 20 percent, by the year 2020.<\/p>\n<p>The Community Health Intern will be supervised by the American Heart Association,\u00a0<strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.heart.org\/HEARTORG\/Affiliate\/Nashville-At-Heart_UCM_491112_SubHomePage.jsp\">Nashville Affiliate<\/a><\/strong>\u2019s Vice President, Health Strategies and will assist in driving AHA\u2019s health strategies initiatives throughout middle Tennessee. These initiatives focus strongly on how to drive impact in change toward the AHA\u2019s 2020 impact goal. The Health Strategies departments are: Communications\/Marketing, Advocacy, Quality and System Improvement, and Community Impact.
