Experimental and computational systems biology of melanoma drug response dynamics.
The general theme of my research lies in understanding pre-existing, non-genetic mechanisms of tumor recurrence in melanoma. In traditional cancer biology, tumor recurrence is usually only associated with genetic mutations. In my work, I hypothesize that pre-existing cancer heterogeneity confers initial resistance to targeted therapies, allowing for tumor recurrence in patients. To elucidate the underlying mechanisms behind tumor recurrence in melanoma, I study cancer cell response to drugs at the single-cell level by isolating clonal populations and understanding long-term response dynamics.
