The Division of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry has a three fold mission to help children and adolescents with brain and behavioral disorders. First, our faculty perform research to better understand the underlying causes and potential treatments of brain disorders, ranging from autism spectrum disorder to anxiety disorders to substance abuse. Second, we train mental health providers that go on to serve youth throughout the United States, including child and adolescent psychiatrists, psychologists, and therapists. Third, we provide clinical care to children and adolescents across multiple settings in Middle Tennessee, ranging from acute inpatient care to school-based mental health treatment. By focusing on a mission that integrates clinical care with education and research, we are able to provide help to children and families who are able to come to Vanderbilt for their care while also extending our reach by training future providers and pursuing world-class science.
