A tuition scholarship may be available through the specific program to which you’re applying. The Office of Student Financial Services awards only federal aid. The receipt of federal loans is independent of departmental scholarships.
Applying for Financial Aid
Vanderbilt University School of Medicine participates in the Federal Direct Student Loan Program which offers low-fixed rate loans. If you are interested in obtaining federal loans to fund your educational expenses, you must first sign up for your Federal Student Aid ID. The FSA ID allows you to electronically sign your application and make updates later if necessary. Complete the FAFSA at www.fafsa.gov. Our FAFSA school code is 003535 for all programs. Provide student (and spouse’s) information; you do not have to include parental data on the FAFSA.
After you have submitted the FAFSA, you will receive a Student Aid Report (SAR); please keep this for your records. General eligibility requirements are that you must:
- Be a U.S. citizen or eligible noncitizen
- Have a valid Social Security number
- Not be in default on any Federal educational loan
- Maintain satisfactory academic progress
Financial aid awards are processed first for M.D. students because of their early academic calendar. Awards for incoming non-M.D. students will be processed by mid-May.
