Meet our newest member: Eric Zhang

Posted by on Wednesday, June 6, 2018 in Uncategorized.

Eric Zhang is an undergraduate student who will be doing research in our lab under the mentorship of post-doc Sierra Cullati.  Welcome, Eric!  We asked Eric a few questions to get to know him.

What are you studying at Vanderbilt?  What are you thinking about doing after college?

I’m currently a Biological Sciences and Global History double major, with plans of hopefully one day going to medical school. The history part of that isn’t supposed to really make sense with my career goals much… I just really like subject and learning more about the world.

Why did you want to do research?

I love biology and chemistry, but lectures and courses usually cover a wide range of topics to provide students with a practical understanding of the field. Research has always been kind of like the next step of digging into the real science underneath the surface. You get to use everything from class to really start exploring a different world and helping to tell the story of how we work. And, when you do learn something new, it might be something that no one else in the world knows yet!

What are you most looking forward to learning/accomplishing in lab?

I’d be happy with knowing that I’ve really contributed somehow to the work that the lab is doing after my time here.

What do you most enjoy doing outside of lab/classes?

I love hiking, listening to music, and watching movies whenever I have some free time!
