I’m studying the human potassium channel KCNQ1, defects in which cause a number of heart arrhythmias. In particular, I’m studying the voltage sensing domain of the channel. I hope to elucidate a structure for the closed state of this domain, which will provide new insight into channel function. I am also working on improving energy calculations for KCNQ1 mutants to assist in the development of tools for mutation severity prediction.
