My research interests include epigenetics, metabolic disorders, functional genomics, and bioinformatics. The goal of my project is to study the epigenetic features, specifically DNA methylation, that shape type 2 diabetes (T2D). To accomplish this, I will build a genome-wide DNA methylation profile of human islets from T2D donors and identify potential regulatory regions driving a T2D transcriptional program. The proposed research may reveal central mechanisms mediating T2D since SNPs don’t tell the full story.
