    Dr. Chalkley is responsible for the overview of the activities of the office of Biomedical Research Education and Training. These responsibilities include oversight of the IGP, the MD/PhD program, postdoctoral affairs, graduate student affairs as well as minority activities and supporting training grant applications. Dr. Chalkley was educated at Pembroke College, Oxford in Chemistry and conducted post-doctoral research in gene regulation and chromatin structure in the laboratory of James Bonner at CalTech. After almost 20 years in the Department of Biochemistry at the University of Iowa School of Medicine, he moved to Vanderbilt in 1986. He has published almost 200 papers in chromatin research. Dr. Chalkley has had an active interest in graduate education for many years and was involved in the establishment of the IGP where he served as Director for eight years.
