Medical Outdoor Orientation

Posted by on Monday, August 14, 2017 in First Year .

MOO, Medical Outdoor Orientation, is the annual student-led culmination of VMS orientation. The goal of MOO is not necessarily to focus on the academic aspects of transitioning to medical school, but to allow for students to get to know one another in a more social and comfortable setting. After a day of pontooning, hiking, or rafting, students met this year at Bells Bend park for food and festivities away from the bright lights and activity of Nashville. After arriving at Bells Bend, the first-year students were treated to dinner from Chick-Fil-A and Subway while they debriefed about their MOO trips and the transition to medical school in general. Dinner was followed by dancing and singing along to 90s throwbacks, as well as some impromptu salsa and swing performances. Spikeball and Twister games lasted well into the night and were followed by a campfire with all the marshmallow and chocolate fixin’s. After a less than restful night on the campground, the incoming class arose bright and early for the camping version of a continental breakfast. They then made the trek back to campus, where they prepared to begin their Foundations of the Profession unit with Dean Miller. Overall, the MOO trips and campout were a pleasure to host, and we look forward to seeing our new class of medical students on campus!
