Interview

The applicant receiving an invitation to interview is responsible for scheduling the interview through the Applicant Admissions Portal. This link is available only after submitting the Vanderbilt secondary application and being invited for an interview.

Interviews for the 2023-2024 Admissions Cycle will be conducted virtually via Zoom. Candidates invited to interview will have two separate interviews, one long and one short, with different faculty members. Virtual interview days at VUSM are usually Monday and Friday. As a convenience to our applicants and faculty interviewers, we will be offering both morning interview sessions and afternoon interview sessions for the 2023-2024 Admissions Cycle. Two weeks prior to your scheduled interview, you will be matched with your interviewers and assigned to either the morning or afternoon session. As much as possible we will try to take into account an applicant’s geographical location when assigning interview sessions, but that may not always be possible due to interviewer availability. An email detailing all of this information will be sent at least 3 days before your interview.

There will also be multiple opportunities to interact virtually with current medical school students as well as live and recorded sessions about our curriculum, research opportunities, diversity, and community involvement as part of the virtual interview day.

Interviews are an important part of the application process because they provide the admissions committee with the opportunity to evaluate an applicant’s interpersonal skills and intangible qualities that cannot be evaluated through MCAT scores, GPA, or other parts of the application.

Additionally, interviewees will be invited to join our optional Deep Dive with Vandy sessions on certain Wednesdays at 6:00 p.m. for more in depth conversations about Curriculum and Research and Community Health, Diversity, and Inclusion. The schedule will be emailed to interviewees.
