Congratulations to Kevin Bersell (M4) on being selected as one of five national finalists for the prestigious American Heart Association’s Lous N. and Arnold M. Katz Basic Research Prize! This award encourages new investigators to continue research careers in basic cardiovascular science.  Kevin was the only student selected as a finalist. He was honored at a ceremony during the recent AHA Scientific Meeting in Anaheim, CA. Pictured is Kevin with his thesis mentor, Dr. Dan Roden, Senior Vice President for Personalized Medicine at Vanderbilt University Medical Center.

Congratulations to Krystian Kozek (G4) for winning the Best Graduate Poster Award at SEMSS for his poster titled, “Discovery and Development of Tools to Study the Role of G Protein-gated Inwardly-rectifying Potassium (GIRK) Channels in Addiction.” He is pictured with other poster winners from the weekend.

Jacob VanHouten (M4) was selected to receive a Kaiser Permanente Northern California Medical Student Scholarship for 2017. Each year, Kaiser Permanente recognizes fourth year medical students for their commitment to supporting underserved communities with a scholarship. Jacob traveled to San Francisco in October, where he and 33 other scholarship recipients were honored at an awards banquet and met with residency program directors, faculty, and current residents.
