Musculoskeletal Oncology Research

OCancer microscopic viewur orthopaedic oncology research team is dedicated to identifying the factors that cause and promote musculoskeletal cancers and to developing novel treatments that improve patients’ quality of life and chance for cure. Only by understanding how tumors arise, how they spread, and how they develop resistance to therapies can we generate new ideas on how to successfully treat cancers affecting the musculoskeletal system. We are a multidisciplinary team, comprised of clinician-scientists, cancer biologists, and nurse specialists who are inspired by the patients that we see on a daily basis to ask vital scientific questions that affect cancer care. Because of our diverse backgrounds, we can translate bench top discoveries into clinically relevant interventions. Our team leaders are at the forefront of their respective research programs, are funded by several society and federal grants, and have published in top national and international journals.

Our current research interests include:

  • Identification of novel markers of sarcoma progression using proteomic profiling
  • Understanding the mesenchymal stem cell factors that promote bone metastasis
  • How the coagulation system can drive bone repair and sarcoma progression
  • The bio-engineering of vascularized bone
